Boston (1-0) defeated Cincinnati (0-1), 3-0, on opening day for the 2026 MLB season Thursday at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. Former Vol Garrett Crochet (1-0) started for the Red Sox and pitched six innings. He recorded eight strikeouts and 80 pitches, including 52 strikes, against 24 batters in his first win this season.
Crochet allowed three hits and two walks, while the Reds hit five ground balls and six fly balls against the left-handed pitcher. He was traded from the White Sox to Boston ahead of the 2025 season. The former Vol played for Chicago from 2020-24.
Crochet was selected by the White Sox in the 2020 MLB draft (No. 11 overall) after playing for the Vols from 2018-20. Boston will next play Saturday at Cincinnati.
