Texas A&M LB looking to be 'more intentional' on defense in 2026

Yahoo Sports

Texas A&M linebacker Noah Mikhail is poised for a breakout season, aiming to lead the Aggies' defense after strong spring practices.

Texas A&M's spring season is off and running, as coach Mike Elko and his newly assembled roster have completed four practices , and so far, the offense has looked the part with starting quarterback Marcel Reed taking noticeable strides as a passer, while freshman wide receiver Aaron Gregory could find himself playing more snaps than anticipated after Thursday's impressive performance. On defense, the added size and athleticism across the defensive line from the transfer portal are expected to help the run defense and provide consistent pass rush, with Northwestern transfer edge Anto Saka expected to make a significant impact in Elko's defensive scheme. One position of note?

Texas A&M's relatively new linebacker rotation after three-year starter Tauren York declared for the 2026 NFL Draft, senior Daymion Sanford looks to fill the leadership role, combined with transfer Ray Coney, and sophomore linebacker Noah Mikhail, who is expected to earn a key rotational spot after appearing in seven games last season. A former blue-chip prospect in the 2025 cycle, Mikhail chose the Aggies over Oregon and has been one of the hardest-working players since arriving on campus. This week, Mikhail, speaking with the TexAgs staff, has been a trend with up-and-coming players this month, as the California native is ready to take the next step in his development.

Personally, I want to be more intentional. As a linebacker... take over, command, and be that voice out there.

Mikail's practice habits, size, and athleticism should lead to a breakout season with the potential to lead the Aggies in tackles and become one of the program's more reliable run stoppers behind a defensive line with more size and experience from the transfer portal.
