A little thunder gets taken out of Opening Day for a fanbase in the Eastern Time Zone when the first game is scheduled for a late night out in the Pacific Time Zone.

Chase DeLauter, whether Cleveland Guardians fans were awake to see it or not, made sure to return the thunder to the occasion in a 6-4 win Thursday night at the Seattle Mariners . DeLauter homered early, and he homered late, and he stole the show immediately in what was sort of but not really his MLB debut. The smooth lefty swinger added a single for good measure to give himself three hits in his first-ever MLB regular season game.

DeLauter had actually appeared in two playoffs games at the end of last season after not playing a single inning outside the minor leagues before that. His bat was never really in question, but his health has been and will continue to be until he proves that it shouldn't be a worry anymore.

DeLauter has raked his whole professional career, but he has still played less than 150 games as a pro because of nagging ailments. Clearly, the Guardians need him on the field. This is a team that has been devoid of slugging potential outside of Jose Ramirez.
