Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed, freshman WR, showed out in spring practice

Yahoo Sports

During Thursday's fourth practice, Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed and freshman WR Aaron Gregory made some noise.

Texas A&M's fourth spring practice took place on Thursday afternoon, serving as the second padded practice of the month and providing coach Mike Elko and his staff another chance to evaluate a talented roster of 17 transfer portal additions and 26 freshmen from the 2026 signing class. While those of us who cover the program will focus on every position, the national media will continue to watch quarterback Marcel Reed's every move, not just for content, but to gauge the redshirt junior's progress ahead of his third full starting season. However, through four spring practices, it's difficult to assess Reed's progress, but after Thursday's practice, it's clear that the Tennessee native is making strides.

For those, including myself, who weren't in attendance for Thursday's practice, GigEm247 beat writer Carter Karels was spot on based on the video footage regarding Marcel Reed's performance, while freshman wide receiver Aaron Gregory has been one of the most consistent performers so far this spring, and continued to make plays on Thursday. Liked what I saw from Marcel Reed at practice today. Two throws with tight coverage on corner-like routes to the sideline in particular — one to Isaiah Horton (1 on 1) and the other to Aaron Gregory (7 on 7) — were really, really good.

Decision making was sharp, had a couple big runs (though, the defense wasn’t allowed to tackle him). Maybe a couple too many coverage sacks, but he got a lot of work with the younger receivers. Consistently completing tight window throws is one of the areas that needs work, and the offseason addition of Alabama transfer wideout Isaiah Horton will certainly help, given his 6'4" frame and large catch radius.

Still, the proverbial drumbeat is growing louder for freshman WR Aaron Gregory, who is one of the more athletic playmakers on the roster, no matter his age. After it was revealed that junior wide receiver Ashton Bethel-Roman left Thursday's practice with an unspecified injury, knowing that Gregory is continuing to improve and look the part is a great sign from a depth perspective.
