Wrestling mailbag: What is a takedown anymore? What's driving the gap between Iowa and Penn State?
Hello again, wrestling fans! The 2025-26 season is in the books, with incredible moments all around. Whether it was Dreshaun Ross and Blake Fox making history at the state mete, Gabe Arnold's Rudy-like NCAA campaign or the end of some special collegiate and high school careers , there was plenty to keep tabs on in-state.
A huge thank you to our subscribers and everyone who followed our coverage. Without you, we would not be able to tell the amazing stories from the NCAA Championships to the state high school tournaments and everything in between. Even with the season at an end, there's still plenty to get into, including the future at Iowa, the transfer portal, freestyle season and beyond.
With that in mind, we gathered some of your questions and answered them here in our end-of-season mailbag. Some questions were edited for length and clarity and to combine similarly themed inquiries. Q: What kind of steps do you think Tom Brands and company will take to try to get closer to Penn State?
Is it more athlete-driven or style-driven that has made the gap so large between these two programs? To no one's surprise, there were a number of emails related to the direction of the Iowa wrestling program. This question gave the best avenue to encompass all of those questions on recruiting, style, etc.
