Commanders' recent history with first-round receivers is ugly
GM Adam Peters has been trying to obtain another big-play receiver.
The Washington Commanders need another receiver. We are certain general manager Adam Peters felt the same way when the NFL free agency signing period began. He swung hard for Colts receiver Alec Pierce, but Pierce wanted to remain in Indianapolis and stayed with the Colts.
Next, Peters pursued former Packers WR Romeo Doubs. But Doubs signed with the Patriots. Peters then re-signed free agent WR Treylon Burks, who had come to the Commanders after being released by the Titans.
Then, deciding to improve the depth of the wide receiver room over the 2025 group, Peters signed receivers Van Jefferson and Dyami Brown. Drafted by Washington in 2021, Brown had explored free agency, signing with the Jaguars for one season. Now he returns to Washington on a one-year deal.
Brandon Aiyuk of the San Francisco 49ers has been the subject of much discussion, given that he was a college teammate of the Commanders' quarterback, Jayden Daniels, at Arizona State. But the 49ers are holding out, waiting to see if they can get a late Day 3 draft pick from some team, rather than simply release Aiyuk and hand him over to the Commanders. So, might the Commanders draft a receiver?
