Samuel, Kosgei receive annual honors
Habtom Samuel and Pamela Kosgei have been named the men’s and women’s Mountain West Indoor Student-Athletes of the Year for the indoor track and field season, the league announced Thursday. Samuel won league titles in the men’s 3,000-meter and 5,000-meter finals at the Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships before claiming his first indoor national championship in the latter race at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Kosgei, like Samuel, swept the Mountain West women’s 3K and 5K finals to help secure her second consecutive Indoor Student-Athlete of the Year honor.
Both Samuel and Kosgei were also named to the Bowerman award watch list Thursday. Named for famed Oregon track and field coach, the award is annually given to the most outstanding men’s and women’s collegiate track and field athletes.
