Gators welcome back Boogie Fland, Urban Klavzar, await other key decisions
GAINESVILLE — The Gators’ 2026-27 backcourt began to take shape as veterans Boogie Fland and Urban Klavzar announced their return to Florida. Fland’s future was uncertain after he explored his professional options after his freshman season at Arkansas before transferrring to UF in May of 2025 . An elite on-ball defender with a team-high 61 steals this past season, the 19-year-old point guard was also inconsistent and could benefit from another year in college.
Klavzar, a junior last season, was expected to return after carving out a key role off the bench for the 27-8 Gators. The 6-foot-1 shooting guard from Slovenia led the Gators with 71 3-pointers, shooting 40. 6% from long range on 175 attempts for a team that was inconsistent beyond the arc.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Fland had difficulty establish his role and rhythm during nonconference play. A turnover in the final seconds at Duke was his fourth during a 67-66 loss, undermining a 16-point night. During a 77-73 loss to UConn at Madison Square Garden in his native New York City, he finished with eight points and one assist before fouling out.
Fland broke out during a 91-67 rout of Tennessee Jan. 10 at the O’Connell Center, posting 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting, five assists and four steals. He followed with several strong performances for the SEC regular-season champion Gators, including a 15 points and eight assists in a 100-77 win against Alabama and 22 points in an 84-71 victory Feb.
25 at Texas. The Crimson Tide and Longhorns each reached the Sweet 16. Top-seeded Florida’s season ended with a stunning 73-72 loss to ninth-seeded Iowa this past Sunday in Tampa.
