Ohio State defensive coordinator Matt Patricia dishes on offseason

Yahoo Sports

Ohio State defensive coordinator Matt Patricia met with the media at the Woody Hayes Athletic center to discuss spring ball progress of the defense.

The hiring of Matt Patricia as Ohio State's new defensive coordinator was a success by almost all accounts and measures last year. The Buckeyes were statistically the best defense in the country last year, and a lot of it had to do with the scheme and teaching of Patricia. However, one year does not a legacy make at a place like Ohio State, and now it's on to Year 2 of the Patricia era, and there's a significant amount of retooling that will need to be done with the loss of the likes of Caleb Downs , Arvell Reese , and Sonny Styles .

There are some transfers and other new faces that will be a part of the equation this year, and Patricia made himself available at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center after spring practice to discuss that and more on Thursday. In case you missed what Patricia had to say, we have the entire fifteen-minute interview thanks to the WBNS 10TV YouTube channel. Watch below as Patricia talks about his reasons for staying in Columbus, the challenges presented this year with a bunch of different players, his thoughts on the scheme of the defense, and more.

Ohio State is still in the midst of spring practice, with it all culminating with the annual spring game set for Saturday, April 18. We'll continue to have sights, sounds, interviews, and more throughout spring ball as they are made available.
