It seems that the team inquired about some of the options out there, but ultimately decided the price was too high for many of them and chose to stick with what they had, re-signing all of J. K. Dobbins, Tyler Badie and Jaleel McLaughlin.
With RJ Harvey about to enter his second season in the league, the Broncos have a solid combination at the top with him and Dobbins, so long as the latter can stay healthy. But if last season was any indication, the Broncos should still be looking for an upgrade at the RB3 spot, as McLaughlin and Badie were not terribly helpful on offense. Badie can catch the ball out of the backfield and play special teams.
McLaughlin can be a nice change-of-pace option, but he struggles in pass protection and doesn't play special teams. It seemed clear that if the Broncos had a more physical running back in the AFC Championship Game last season, there is a good chance that they would have played in the Super Bowl. That is the player the team still needs, and according to a report from Luka Evans of The Denver Post , the team identified that player in free agency.
