UConn men’s basketball assistant coach Luke Murray will soon leave the Huskies’ sidelines. Boston College announced Thursday that it has hired Murray as its next men’s basketball head coach. Murray will remain with UConn for the remainder of the NCAA Tournament and then relocate to Chestnut Hill, Mass.

There, he’ll look to rebuild a program that has long been at the bottom of the Atlantic Coast Conference and hasn’t appeared in March Madness since 2009. Since joining UConn in 2021, Murray has played a critical role in the program’s success, which includes back-to-back national championship victories. Head coach Dan Hurley has credited Murray with modernizing the UConn offense by introducing European concepts, strategies and analytics.

With Murray’s input, the Huskies have consistently had one of the country’s most effective and efficient offensive units for the past five years. After graduating from Fairfield University with a sociology degree in 2007, he became the director of operations for the Quinnipiac University men’s basketball team for the 2007-2008 season.

In 2008-2009, he was an assistant coach at Post. He then traveled west, becoming a graduate assistant at Arizona in 2009-2010. From there, Murray went to Wagner for the 2010-2011 season, where he first entered Hurley’s coaching tree.
