Rutgers Football Promotes Former Player to Assistant Tight Ends Coach

Washington joined the team’s coaching staff last summer as a player development assistant.

He will now be taking on additional responsibilities thanks to the internal promotion. Washington originally came to play for Rutgers as a 2019 recruit out of Trinity Christian Academy in Florida, where he was ranked as the 80th best player in the state. Washington committed to Rutgers despite receiving 21 other offers.

He would play five years in Piscataway, where he tied the school record for 58 total games played. He finished his career with 74 catches for 927 yards and three touchdowns. Washington would spend the 2024 training camp with the Baltimore Ravens, but was waived after being placed on IR.

He would sign with the UFL’s Memphis Showboats as a part of the 2025 season, where he caught 13 passes for 144 yards. It was here that he met Jim Turner, Rutgers current offensive line coach, during his time as an interim head coach of the Showboats. In his new role, Washington will work alongside another former Rutgers player, Scott Vallone, meaning that he will have the chance to learn under one of the best recruiters on staff.
