HIGHLIGHTS: MSU Hockey beats UConn, advances in NCAA Tournament
Watch highlights from the Spartans' tight victory over UConn in the first round of the NCAA Tournament
Michigan State hockey is one win away from its first Frozen Four in nearly 20 years. It was a low-scoring battle, but the Spartans came out on top in the end, topping UConn, 2-1, in Thursday's NCAA Tournament first round matchup. Michigan State fell behind 1-0 in the first period, but scored the final two goals to earn the victory and move forward to Saturday's Worcester Region final.
Michigan State got its two goals from a pair of future pros in Ryker Lee and Porter Martone , and was lucky to have arguably the best goalie in college hockey between its pipes in Trey Augustine. Those three were the stars of the game for the Spartans in extending their season for at least one more game. Next up for the Spartans is a matchup with conference rival Wisconsin on Saturday.
The winner will go on to the Frozen Four in Las Vegas in two weeks.
