The News 8 Primetime 585 Spotlight Team of the Week is the Honeoye Falls-Lima girls lacrosse team. The HF-L Cougars took down Canandaigua 11-10 to start their season with a bang, taking down a team that is expected to compete for the Class B sectional championship. The Gray Wolves have some of the top players in Section Five, including Maci Mueller, a Syracuse commit, and Leah Sheridan, a Fairfield commit.

“Canandaigua’s a really strong opponent, and they have a lot of firepower behind them,” said Honeoye Falls-Lima head coach Kristin Butka. “That was a really good game to get our feet wet today. I could not be prouder of these girls.

” The Cougars brought their own star power, however, with Shayne Angelo, a Duke commit, scoring six goals, including three in the first seven minutes. Angelo also reached her 300th career draw control during this contest. The game itself was close throughout.

In the third period, the two sides were tied at nine. Sophomore Harper Jones scored a go-ahead goal for her third of the game. Just a couple of minutes later, Angelo added an insurance goal to help HF-L walk away with the victory.
