Mel Kiper defends Shedeur Sanders among Ty Simpson rumors
Mel Kiper kills any rumors about Ty Simpson to the Browns.
ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. is a huge fan of Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Kiper was a huge advocate of the former Colorado Buffaloes star and thought he was unfairly treated during last year’s draft.
So when Field Yates brought up the possibility of the Browns drafting Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson, Kiper wasn’t having any of it. "The Jets have to be figuring out Ty Simpson, the Steelers have to figure out Ty Simpson, and now, certainly, Arizona has to (figure out); to trade back and get him," Kiper told Yates. "The Browns don't have to worry about Ty Simpson.
They got a better quarterback than Ty Simpson in Shedeur Sanders. Don't go there. " There have been rumors that the Browns may be interested in drafting Simpson because he has a relationship with head coach Todd Monken dating back to Monken's coaching days at Georgia.
Monken is very impressed with Simpson despite Kiper’s feelings about Sanders, and Simpson has said in recent interviews that he would love to play for him and the Browns. But as of now, it looks like the New York Jets may be drafting Simpson if his workout goes well with them. Kiper doesn’t seem as impressed with Simpson as others have been and clearly would be upset if the Browns make that move.
