Pittsburgh Pirates debut Steel City-inpired HR celebration on MLB Opening Day

The MLB regular season is underway. Fans have returned to their home stadiums, watching big swings and, perhaps, some fresh celebrations. The Pittsburgh Pirates made some interesting history in their Opening Day loss to the New York Mets—not just on the mound, but in the dugout as well.

On Thursday, however, they embraced the Steel City’s roots with a new twist on their celebration. Footage showed home run hitters donning a steelworker’s hard hat upon returning to the dugout.

The celebration is subtle yet distinctive, paying homage to Pittsburgh’s rich industrial history. Despite driving in seven runs, the Pirates struggled defensively. The performance likely delighted Mets fans in attendance, though it disappointed those watching from Pittsburgh.
