The Commanders add size, depth and experience to the cornerback room.

The Washington Commanders announced the signing of veteran cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon on the same day he visited the team. Witherspoon, 31, spent the past three seasons with the Los Angeles Rams. Originally a third-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in the 2017 NFL Draft, the 6-foot-2, 215-pound Witherspoon played four seasons there.

Witherspoon reunites with Washington general manager Adam Peters, who was San Francisco's vice president of player personnel at the time. He played collegiately at Colorado. After four seasons with the 49ers, Witherspoon signed with the Seattle Seahawks in 2021 and was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers just before the season began.

He played two seasons for the Steelers before signing with the Rams in 2023. Witherspoon has played a total of 96 NFL games, making 64 starts. He has 243 career tackles, 60 passes defensed and 13 interceptions.

Witherspoon made 24 starts for the Rams over the last three seasons, tying a career-high with three interceptions in 2023. We have signed CB Ahkello Witherspoon pic. twitter.
