Casteel gave No. 1 nationally ranked St. John Bosco its first loss of the season on March 26.

Queen Creek Casteel's baseball team went into North Carolina this week unranked and unheralded nationally. But that may change now, after the Colts defeated the nation's No. 1-ranked team, California power St.

John Bosco, 3-2, on Thursday, March 26, in the quarterfinals of the National High School Invitational in Cary, North Carolina. "Just shows with our style of play and our grit, we can play with anybody," coach Matt Denny said in a text message. "It's obvious we're talented, but we are much tougher than we are talented.

" No Arizona team was ranked nationally this week in the MaxPreps top 25. Casteel is ranked No. 1 in the state in The Republic's top 10 this week.

Baylor Denny, Matt's son, led the Colts at the plate with a single and two RBIs. But it was an error on St. John Bosco that produced the winning run in the top of the seventh inning that broke a 2-2 tie.
