Detroit Red Wings goalie Cam Talbot is day-to-day with an undisclosed injury, leaving the Wings in need of a backup for John Gibson

The Detroit Red Wings anticipated having to call up a goaltender after their regular backup became unavailable. Cam Talbot missed practice ahead of the Wings' next game, Friday, March 27, at the Buffalo Sabres, because of an undisclosed injury. "I don't know if he tweaked something yesterday, but he would be day-to-day," coach Todd McLellan said after Thursday's practice.

"We think it's minor, but it's minor enough that he didn't skate today. We'll have to figure that part out. We'll likely have to call up a goaltender.

We'll have to talk about it. We have to deal with Talbot a little bit right now. He was getting some things looked at this morning, so it's all happened fast.
