He's batting third and playing third base on Opening Day against the Pittsburgh Pirates . After signing a three-year, $126 million contract with the NL East club during the offseason, Bichette is off to a nice start at the plate. Facing Paul Skenes in the bottom of the first , the 28-year-old lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring shortstop Francisco Lindor from third base.

Skenes started the matchup with two fastballs for called strikes, and Bichette managed to foul off a third heater. It's Bichette's first RBI in a Mets uniform and was the first of five runs in the frame for New York. Bichette is playing third base for first time With Lindor at shortstop, Bichette is making his first appearance of his career at third base.

In his seven years with the Toronto Blue Jays , he never made a start or an appearance at any other position outside of shortstop. There may be growing pains , though, as Bichette's first throw to first base on Thursday was up the first base line. First baseman Jorge Polanco took a few steps off the bag and managed to put a tag on Pirates catcher Henry Davis.
