LSU basketball to fire coach Matt McMahon, rehire Will Wade | Reports
LSU basketball will have a new coach next season, and it's a familiar, controversial face on the Bayou.
After four seasons, a 60-70 overall record and 17-55 SEC record, LSU basketball is set to part ways with head coach Matt McMahon, according to reports from On3 and CBS Sports on March 26. Earlier Thursday morning, multiple reports said that the Tigers will bring back coach Will Wade , who had a successful run in Baton Rouge which ended in 2022, fueled by multiple NCAA violations. Wade has taken McNeese State and NC State to the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons since coming off a two-year show-cause penalty and 10-game suspension handed down in June 2023.
After a successful stint at Murray State, McMahon was hired by the Tigers in 2022 to rebuild the program amid the fallout of the Wade scandal. The high-water mark of the McMahon era came in his second season, when he led LSU to a home game in the 2024 NIT before eventually losing to North Texas. The Tigers did not make the NCAA Tournament in four years under McMahon.
