Antwaan Randle-El explains why the Bears signed Kalif Raymond

Yahoo Sports

Bears WRs coach Antwaan Randle-El shared some insight into why Chicago signed Kalif Raymond this offseason.

The Chicago Bears made some under-the-radar moves in free agency that could wind up being impactful ones, including the signing of former Detroit Lions wide receiver Kalif Raymond, who brings speed and experience to a receivers room that lost DJ Moore, Olamide Zaccheaus and Devin Duvernay this offseason. Raymond previously played under head coach Ben Johnson and assistant head coach/receivers coach Antwaan Randle-El in Detroit for several years, so there's certainly a familiarity there that made Raymond a natural fit on the Bears , both on offense and as a return specialist. "When you think about what we look for in players, [Raymond] exemplifies all that," Randle El told ChicagoBears.

com . "We want football players and that's what he is. He has love for the game, passion for the game, and he's going to be a great teammate—not only to the wide receiver room but to the players throughout the team.

" Randle-El knows firsthand just how impactful Raymond can be on the field on offense as a vertical weapon and special teams as a return specialist. "When you're talking about the on-the-field stuff just in terms of playmaking ability, that shows up all over the tape," Randle El said. "It always has for him.

So that's a big addition: a guy with speed who understands football—seeing the coverage, knowing the coverage—and the veteran presence that he'll bring to my room. " Raymond won't be a focal point on offense with Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III leading the charge, as well as tight ends Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet, but he figures to fill the role vacated by Zaccheaus, who departed in free agency.
