Who are the best free agent and draft fits for the Commanders?

Who is the best free agent fit and the best draft fit for the Washington Commanders' biggest remaining hole?

So far during free agency, the Washington Commanders have signed players on both sides of the ball, but they aren't even close to fixing the problems this team had in 2025. Odafe Oweh and Leo Chenal were nice additions, as were Chig Okonkwo and Rachaad White. The extension of Laremy Tunsil and the re-signing of Marcus Mariota were absolutely necessary, but they still have more work to do.

CBS Sports' Zachary Pereles recently named a best-fit piece for each of the 32 NFL teams. What he means by that is out of the players who are left, which free agents and which prospective draftees make the most sense for each team. For the Commanders , it wasn't super surprising.

Free agent fit: Brandon Aiyuk Draft fit : Carnell Tate, Ohio State The Commanders were in on both Alec Pierce and Romeo Doubs but ended up with neither. They mostly focused on the defensive side in free agency. The offensive free agents they added -- Dyami Brown and Van Jefferson -- arrived on cheap, one-year deals.

Once the 49ers release him, Aiyuk is expected to be the next addition, but Washington could (and should) still do more. San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk isn't actually a free agent yet; the Commanders would have to trade for him as of right now. But it has been discussed by multiple outlets on multiple occasions because he would be a good fit to play alongside Terry McLaurin, similar to how Deebo Samuel played in 2025.
