After coming into the season ranked as the AP No. 1, Purdue limped through the year with no urgency. This led the Boilermakers to a finish of seventh in the Big Ten.
Far from the conference title which was expected from them. Purdue also lost a staggering four games at their home arena. Under coach Matt Painter, Purdue has consistently been a national title contender.
But they have not been able to break through for one reason or another. If this comes to fruition again in 2026, it will be due to the Boilermaker’s lack of ability to take on teams with elite athleticism. Purdue can deal with size, as they showed in the Big Ten Title game against Michigan.
