The most immediate concern is Ibrahima Konate, whose deal is expiring at the end of the season. Konate is likely to leave the club at this stage. Although hope remains until the final day there is a sense this could be a Trent 2.
0 situation, which would increase the need for Liverpool to add more bodies on top of Jacquet. Beyond Konate, there are other issues to consider. Both Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk are contracted until 2027.
While that may seem distant, top clubs plan their defensive succession years in advance. Van Dijk, in particular, cannot be expected to anchor the back line indefinitely, and relying on multiple defenders entering the final two years of their contracts at the same time creates risk. Liverpool are building for the future, Jacquet is just one piece of the puzzle.
