McFadden resigns as head football coach at Rockford Auburn
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) โ Auburn High School suddenly is in need of a new head football coach. Former coach Leroy McFadden resigned Wednesday morning.
McFadden and Auburn Athletic Director Cedric Jones both confirmed the resignation when I reached out to them. Neither one was either able or willing to elaborate on why McFadden decided to step down. McFadden was Auburnโs head coach the past two seasons.
Before that he was an assistant coach at Auburn for one season under then head coach Willie Tolon. That was the last time (2023) Auburn finished the regular season with a winning record and made the playoffs. The Knights were only 1-8 last season and 0-9 in 2024, but several of their players still were able to land college offers to play football.
McFadden is also a former student at Auburn High School. His senior year he played at Eden Prairie High in Minnesota where he became โMr. Footballโ for the state of Minnesota.
McFadden then played in college at Michigan State under Nick Saban. He later was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings. Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
