MACHESNEY PARK, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — Two quality Rockford area baseball teams put their best pitchers on the hill and combined for a great game Wednesday afternoon. The Harlem Huskies and their ace Jackson Heidemann edged Rockford Christian and their ace Brody Carlson 3-2.

Heidemann struck out 13 batters while pitching 6. 1 innings. He was removed when he reached a pitch count of 90.

The first eight batters that Heidemann retired were all strikeouts. He allowed five hits in the game. Carlson gave up a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning to Harlem’s cleanup hitter and leftfielder Noah Skidmore.

Carlson settled down nicely after that keeping the Huskies scoreless the next four innings. The Royal Lions got to Heidemann in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI double by Jacob Hatton and an RBI single by Austin Groenwald. Those runs tied the game 2-2.

The Huskies regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI groundout by Blake Yeoman that scored Jackson Cook. After Heidemann was lifted in the top of the seventh, Nick Miceli came on in relief for the Huskies. He got the final two outs on a strikeout and a fly ball to right field.
