High school baseball: Central Texas teams take key district wins

The Central Texas baseball season is in the thick of district play. Here's an update from Tuesday's games in the Austin area.

Hereโ€™s a look at Tuesdayโ€™s action: District 25-6A Round Rock 5, Cedar Ridge 1: The Dragons completed the series sweep as Josh Horvath struck out 10 and scattered four hits in five innings and Weston Ondreyka and Drew Harthcock combined for two innings of scoreless relief. Cade Goddard singled and eventually stole home, Luke Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly and Baker Jackson ripped an RBI single to lead the Round Rock offense. Vista Ridge 2, Vandegrift 0: Drew Wells allowed only one hit and struck out eight in five innings and helped himself at the plate by going 2-for-3 with two doubles, a walk and an RBI as the Rangers picked up a key win for their playoff hopes.

Blake Grimmer finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and both Andrew Klemett and Nolan Riviere struck out three in an inning of scoreless relief in other notable performances for Vista Ridge. Karston Coffey fanned eight and scattered three hits in five innings of shutout relief for the Vipers. McNeil 4, Stony Point 3: Eduardo Gomez-Horton hit a two-run single in the top of the seventh and Justin Sandusky tossed a scoreless bottom half of the inning to spur the Mavericks to the win.

Sandusky also went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Gomez-Horton also tossed 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Hudson Pumphrey drove in two runs and Bryce Bryant finished with two hits to lead the Tigers. Westwood 14, Manor 0 (5): Nate Taparauskas, Killian Boyce-Beene and Sterling Woodley combined for 10 strikeouts and a no-hitter and Juan Perez went 2-for-2 with a walk, triple and three RBIs to pace the Warriors.
