Former Broncos Quarterback Finds An Intriguing New Home With NFC South Team
Former Denver Broncos quarterback Trevor Semien has been a journeyman backup, and now he's with the Atlanta Falcons.
Former Denver Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian has found a new home for the 2026, as the Atlanta Falcons have signed Siemian to back up Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr. , according to an article written by Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk via Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. This will be one of the more unusual quarterback rooms in the NFL, and it comes with the possibility that Siemian could actually see some playing time.
Penix is still recovering from a torn ACL, so he’s nowhere near ready to get back on the field at the moment, while Tagovailoa is also injury prone and has struggled with debilitating concussions throughout his career. Siemian, meanwhile, has spent teh last two seasons with the Tennessee Titans, mostly with the practice squad. This wasn’t unexpected, as the Titans made a major effort last season to develop top draft pick Cam Ward, although Ward struggled severely for most of the season in Tennessee.
Siemian has had plenty of struggles of his own, which is why he’s basically a career backup at this point. He was a seventh-round pick out of Northwestern for the Broncos in 2015, and there was actually a time when he was legitimately in the QB picture in Denver. He got off to a somewhat promising start in 2016, when Peyton Manning retired and Brock Osweiler left the team via free agency.
Siemian plugged the gap, playing in 14 games and throwing for just over 3400 yards with 18 touchdowns and ten interceptions as he led the Broncos to a 9-7 record. The following year, though, his performance deteriorated, and the Broncos cut him loose in 2017. That was when Siemian started bouncing around, with a list of teams that includes the Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears and Cincinnati Bengals.
