PITTSBURG, KS. — Pittsburg State Baseball moves to 26-3 overall following a 12-6 win at home against MIAA rival Missouri Southern. This one saw a ton of offense early before the Gorillas eventually broke away down the stretch.
Missouri Southern’s Brayden Luikart opened the game with a solo home run on the third pitch of the game, one of his two home runs on the day, but Pitt State wasted no time finding a response. In the bottom of the first, Grant Nottlemann sent one to dead center field for a two-run home run to give Pitt State a one-run advantage. From there, both the Lions and Gorillas continued to trade home runs as the weather conditions were well suited for the batters, and not so much for the pitchers being that the 15+ mph wind was blowing directly toward center field.
Aiden Hinkle sent a two-run home run over the left field wall in the third inning, but again the lead didn’t last long for Missouri Southern. Dagen Brewer did Dagen Brewer things, responding with a three-run home run in the bottom of the third to make it 5-3 Pittsburg State, one of Brewer’s two home runs on the day. Aside from a pair of runs in the seventh inning for the Lions, the Pittsburg State pitching staff slammed the door shut in the final stages.
