The former San Francisco Giants slugger came under scrutiny after being linked to BALCO, a Bay Area lab at the center of a high-profile doping case. He denied using steroids and later testified that the "cream" and "clear" substances he used were nutritional supplements, ESPN reported. In 2007, Bonds was indicted on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice for allegedly lying under oath.

Though a judge declared a mistrial four years later, the legendary player never signed with another team and was snubbed from Major League Baseball's Hall of Fame. Bonds has largely stayed out of the spotlight since the steroid scandal — until Netflix announced in March 2026 that he would join the streamer's on-air team for the upcoming MLB season.
