Rivalry aside, Alex Pereira backs Israel Adesanya ahead of UFC Seattle

Alex Pereira has shared a wholesome message for his former rival ahead of UFC Fight Night 271. Former UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya (24-5 MMA, 13-5 UFC) returns from a 13-month layoff to take on Joe Pyfer (15-3 MMA, 6-1 UFC) in Saturday's main event ( Paramount+ ) at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle. Adesanya, who's on a three-fight losing skid, hasn't won a bout since knocking out Pereira in April 2023 at UFC 287 to reclaim his middleweight title.

With the three-year anniversary of their fight coming up next month, Pereira sent words of encouragement to Adesanya. "Saturday is fight night once again. Much respect to Israel Adesanya — we’ve shared the octagon and moments that became part of my journey.

That loss taught me a lot; it pushed me to evolve not only as a fighter, but as a man. I grew, matured, and used it as fuel to reach a higher level in the sport and in life. Regardless of rivalry, I know what it means to step in there — the years of work, the pressure, the sacrifice.
