Zac Rich resigns as Spartanburg High’s boys basketball coach
After three seasons spearheading the Spartanburg Vikings, Zac Rich has resigned as basketball coach.
Zac Rich has resigned as boys basketball coach at Spartanburg High School , the school’s athletic director, Todd Staley, confirmed with the Herald-Journal on March 25. Rich was hired in 2023, after spending several seasons as an assistant at Dorman, where he helped lead the Cavaliers to five state championships, and 10 region championships, under coach Thomas Ryan. This season, Spartanburg finished 17-11, 8-6 in Region 2-5A.
The Vikings lost to Dorman 79-75 in the second round of the playoffs, which was the furthest Spartanburg went in the playoffs under Rich. Rich played for four seasons at USC Upstate and is a Lexington High alumnus. Through three seasons, Rich finished 41-39.
Rich will be returning to Dorman as an assistant under Thomas Ryan. Ryan took over Dorman after the departure of Will Clarke, who was named the new coach of River Bluff on March 24.
