Patrick Mahomes posts ACL rehab update at same time NFL opener announced

•Yahoo Sports

Is Patrick Mahomes just showing how well his rehab is going, or is there something more here?

Whenever he returns to full health, there should be little doubt that Patrick Mahomes will return to his status as one of the NFL's elite quarterbacks. The three-time Super Bowl MVP and two-time NFL regular-season MVP is too special to assume otherwise. But after tearing his ACL in mid-December of last season , it's fair to wonder exactly when we'll see Mahomes again.

Judging by the timing of a Mahomes rehab update to his Instagram story on Wednesday, we very well could see the Kansas City Chiefs superstar signal-caller start Week 1. I say that because Mahomes, who almost certainly pays attention to narratives and news given his status as one of the NFL's faces, posted a promising update of his going through a throwing workout at the same time that the league announced the reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks would have their banner night on Wednesday, September 9th . At the time of this writing, the NFL has not yet picked an opening opponent for the Seahawks.

However, the Chiefs do have a road date in Seattle on tap; there is the added storyline of Super Bowl 60 MVP Kenneth Walker III now playing in Kansas City , and the Chiefs are usually a big marquee draw. The Chiefs reposted Mahomes' ACL rehab update to their X account: QB1 back in the lab šŸ‘€ @PatrickMahomes pic. twitter.

And whether or not Mahomes has any say in the behind-the-scenes schedule machinations (he doesn't), I'm sure he understands this dynamic. I'm also sure he wants that test.
