A year after going 69-93, finishing last in the AL East and jettisoning multiple All-Stars, the Red Sox went from worst to first in 2013, winning 97 games and their third World Series title in 10 years. The 2013 squad was an interesting mix of veterans. On the one hand, Boston still had a formidable core of David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia, Jacoby Ellsbury and Jon Lester, who had already won a championship together in 2007.
On the other hand, there was a bunch of new players brought in that offseason, including Mike Napoli, Shane Victorino, Jonny Gomes, Koji Uehara and David Ross. The Red Sox also had a new manager in John Farrell after firing Bobby Valentine. During his appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Wednesday, Ross described the special vibe in Boston's clubhouse that year.
