NY Jets to host Alabama QB Ty Simpson for private workout
There are several NFL teams in the market for a quarterback; one of them is set to host Alabama's Ty Simpson for a private workout on Friday.
For the better part of two decades, the New York Jets have gone into the offseason with a need at the quarterback position. They thought they'd solved the position with draft picks of Zach Wilson and Sam Darnold, to go along with free agent signings of Aaron Rogers and Justin Fields, but none have worked out. So, for yet another year, the Jets are considered a team potentially willing to pull the trigger on selecting a quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft.
They're doing their due diligence before making a decision, as they're set to host Alabama Crimson Tide passer Ty Simpson for a private workout on Friday, March 27, per ESPN's Adam Schefter . New York owns the No. 2 and No.
16 overall picks in the draft, with the latter seemingly being the range where Simpson could hear his name called. Simpson is expected to be the second quarterback off the board, as Indiana Hoosiers' Fernando Mendoza is a near lock to be taken first overall by the Las Vegas Raiders. But Simpson appears to be head-and-shoulders above the rest of the quarterback class, making his draft placement somewhat of a mystery with less than a month to go before the draft kicks off.
Simpson surged into the top group of quarterbacks in this years draft class after just one season as the Crimson Tide's starter, as he threw for over 3,500 yards, 28 touchdowns and five interceptions while showing poise and accuracy along the way. His size (6-foot-2 and 208 pounds) won't be an advantage for him, but he makes up for it with pinpoint passes thrown on time and a strong understanding of the opposing defense — all traits that may be attractive for a Jets franchise searching for its first franchise quarterback in a long, long time.
