The Green Bay Packers had to say goodbye to Jordan Love ‘s primary backup after Malik Willis signed a $67. 5 million contract with the Miami Dolphins in free agency. Willis was a helpful contributor in Green Bay over the past two seasons, leading them to a 2-1 record while replacing Love due to injury.
Now, the Packers need a new backup quarterback. The only quarterbacks on Green Bay’s depth chart are Love, Desmond Ridder, and Kyle McCord. Head coach Matt LaFleur may want a bit more experience in his QB room.
Recently, The Athletic ‘s Matt Schneidman speculated that LaFleur could prefer to sign someone like Kirk Cousins . Plus, the four-time Pro Bowl QB could be interested in reuniting with his former QB coach from their days in Washington. “The idea of adding a proven veteran like Cousins, who can at least help the Packers tread water if Love goes down, might entice head coach Matt LaFleur.
Cousins might (understandably) want to sign with a team whose starter is less entrenched than Love, but perhaps the idea of reuniting with his position coach from his first two years in the NFL (LaFleur) entices him, too. ” The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman on Kirk Cousins Cousins hasn’t been strongly linked to any one team yet this offseason. Yet, it’s believed that he’d prefer to land in a spot where he has a good chance to see the field, possibly as part of a starting QB competition.
