Newly appointed Borussia Dortmund sports director Nils-Ole Book reacts during his introduction press conference at Signal Iduna Park. Bernd Thissen/dpa Ole Book is ready for his new task as Borussia Dortmund sporting director which the club hopes will lead to more success than in recent years. "We don't just want to press the reset button but start a real update," club boss Carsten Cramer said.

Dortmund have not won the Bundesliga since 2012 and now want to close the gap on Bayern Munich. They seem to trust Book more in this area than predecessor Sebastian Kehl, with whom they parted ways on the weekend. Cramer named Book "the missing piece in the puzzle for a new BVB," saying: "If we want to get closer to Bayern we need a uniform squad.

Ole stands for that. " Book, 40, arrived from second division Elversberg as it make players valuable and put together a squad that can also deliver on the international stage. "The gems here are players who are underrated and develop well at Borussia Dortmund," he said.

Book said it makes no difference whether he works in the top or second tier because "good footballers are good footballers regardless of in which league. "The approach is very similar but I have different opportunities here," he said, adding that he has also continued his development in the area of international football recently. Book pledged that stands for "courageous and attractive football" and suggested that there are a few areas "where I have the feeling that we can develop the squad further.

" Book said he won't run out of challenges in the first days and weeks, with one of the first key tasks being the renewal of the contract of German international defender Nico Schlotterbeck. "I’m looking into it, I’ve already written to Nico,” Book said.
