Wagner's Koupal named Class A girls basketball player of the year for a second time

— Continuing to add accolades at the conclusion of a storied high school career, Wagner star Ashlyn Koupal repeated as Class A girls basketball player of the year and a first-team all-state honoree. A four-time first-team all-state performer, Koupal stuffed stat sheets to the tune of 28 points, 14. 2 rebounds, 4.

2 assists, 4. 3 blocks and three steals per game as a senior. The 6-foot-3 guard/forward led the Red Raiders to a 19-5 record and back to the Class A state tournament again in 2026, the fourth time in five seasons for the program.

Announced on Wednesday, the all-state teams are selected by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association. "Ashlyn is a generational player with a team-first mentality," said Wagner coach and father, Mike Koupal. "She puts her heart and soul into this game, and it shows every time she steps onto the court, not just by stats, but the respect that she gets from her teammates, coaches, opponents and spectators.

She has set the standard high here at Wagner. " Earlier this month, Koupal was also named South Dakota Gatorade girls basketball player of the year for a second time. The University of Nebraska signee is set to play in the McDonald's All-American game on March 31 in Glendale, Arizona.
