Breslow replaced Bloom in 2023 following Bloom's four-year stint running the Red Sox's baseball operations department. Bloom now works as president of baseball operations for the St. Louis Cardinals, but he and his family still live in the Boston area.

Both men have sons in the same suburban Little League, so they spend a good amount of time together at games, according to The Athletic's Jen McCaffrey (subscription required). No wonder they struck two major trades this offseason, bringing Sonny Gray and Willson Contreras from the Cardinals to Boston. They're both huge baseball lovers in their 40s who went to Yale, so it's not hard to see why they get along so well.

As Craig Breslow enters Year 3 in Boston - for a job none of his recent predecessors held more than 3. 5 seasons - he knows its crunch time. โ€œAs soon as you start thinking about (the end), youโ€™re probably defeated.
