Texas A&M junior WR praises OC Holmon Wiggins, WR coach John Perry

•Yahoo Sports

Texas A&M's Ashton Bethel-Roman discusses new wide receivers coach John Perry and his NFL background, while also praising new OC Holmon Wiggins.

Texas A&M's 2026 wide receiver room looks like one of the most talented rotations in the SEC, especially after adding former Alabama wideout Isaiah Horton , whose 6'4" frame will provide starting quarterback Marcel Reed a true mismatch along the boundary and another target in the red zone. However, the return of junior Mario Craver, who already looks quicker and more explosive during the first three spring practices, should help the Aggie passing game take another massive step. Still, junior receivers Ashton Bethel-Roman and Terry Bussey will also be counted on, especially when Horton and Craver are bracketed, which will likely be the case in SEC play.

This offseason, coach Mike Elko made several coaching changes, including five elevations, as wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins will now serve as the team's offensive coordinator/ play-caller, leading to veteran assistant coach John Perry taking over Wiggins' previous position, who served as the Houston Texans WR coach (2017-2020) for several seasons, and has been a head coach and offensive coordinator during is 20-plus year career. Ashton Bethel-Roman's 2025 season was mightily impressive after earning the No. 3 starting receiver job in the fall, becoming a favorite target for Marcel Reed, who connected with the Missouri City (TX) native for 24 receptions, 503 yards and five touchdowns, including a career high 139 yards and a score during the Aggies' 31-30 comeback win over South Carolina.

On Tuesday, Bethel-Roman spoke to the media, and when asked about Holmon Wiggins' promotion, paired with working directly with John Perry, it's no surprise the junior receiver had nothing but positive things to say, while his excitement regarding Perry's NFL background is certainly intriguing.
