HC Mike Elko praises Texas A&M's 2026 wide receiver room
After Texas A&M's third spring practice, HC Mike Elko heaped praise on his WR room built round "dynamic playmakers."
Texas A&M's third spring practice kicked off on Tuesday afternoon, leading to coach Mike Elko and several players, including junior wide receiver Ashton Bethel-Roman, taking time out of their busy schedule to talk to the media members in attendance. Bethel-Roman, who shot on the scene last season as one of starting quarterback Marcel Reed's most reliable playmakers. A former four-star prospect, Elko, and current offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins flipped Bethel-Roman from Arkansas in the 2024 recruiting class, and while it took a season to learn the offense, the Missouri City (TX) native put the work in last offseason and outright earned the No.
3 wide receiver job behind star transfer wideouts KC Concepcion and Mario Craver. After Concepcion declared for the 2026 NFL Draft, the addition of former Alabama WR Isaiah Horton completed the 2026 wide receiver room, which, on paper, is by far the most talented rotation Texas A&M has possessed in over a decade, leading to Mike Elko providing his assessment of the room through three spring practices. Noting the offseason addition of Isaiah Horton, who brings much-needed size to the passing game, the return of Mario Craver, Ashton Bethel-Roman, and Terry Bussey provides elite speed and the ability to win and separate in coverage, which, in turn, will help starting quarterback Marcel Reed take another step as a pocket passer with more options in short and intermediate routes.
