Nebraska football legend Lavonte David announces retirement
Former Nebraska football linebacker Lavonte David announced on Tuesday that he was retiring from the NFL after 14 seasons.
Nebraska football legend Lavonte David announced his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday afternoon. David enjoyed a stellar 14-year career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers . The former Husker played at a high level throughout those 14 years.
The playmaker recorded 1,714 combined tackles, 33 forced fumbles, 42. 5 sacks, and 14 interceptions. He did it over the course of 215 games.
He was a Super Bowl champion, a Pro Bowl honoree in 2015, and a First-Team All-Pro in 2013. He was tremendously successful in the NFL and was able to take the impact he had at Nebraska and translate it well into the pros. On the collegiate level, David started all 27 games during his time in Lincoln.
He said the single-season record for tackles in 2010 is 152. He was a two-time All-American and the Big Ten linebacker of the year in 2011. He made the All-Big 12 first-team in 2010 and the All-Big Ten first-team in 2011.
