We can't afford to play this game I want a National Women's Soccer League team in Columbus. I want one even more because I know what it feels like to lose one โ twice. Before moving here, my wife and I were season ticket holders for Bay Area women's soccer through both the WUSA and the WPS, cheering for the San Jose CyberRays and the FC Gold Pride until those leagues collapsed.
Since moving to Columbus, I have been thrilled to watch SheBelieves Cup games here. Nobody wants this more than I do. But the Haslams are asking Columbus and Franklin County to divert $50 million in capital funds โ money we need for roads and basic infrastructure โ to subsidize a franchise that will be a private, rapidly appreciating asset for a billionaire ownership group.
