High school baseball, softball: Keller survives test; Melissa continues home run barrage

A year after breaking the high school national record for most home runs in a season, the nationally ranked Melissa softball team continued to hit long balls in Tuesday's win over Prosper Walnut

But Maximus Segura made sure there would be no upset. Segura hit an RBI double in the top of the sixth and then scored on a groundout as Keller went on to win 7-3. Maddox McCrary provided some final insurance with an RBI single in the seventh.

Tennessee pledge Cole Koeninger homered for Keller, as did Logan Brown to help Keller (20-1-2) extend its winning streak to 13 games. Brown was the starting pitcher and allowed three runs on two hits in four innings before Cameron Ireland followed with 2 2/3 innings of hitless relief while striking out seven. Spotlight Last season, Melissa set a new high school national record for most home runs in a season by hitting 122 in 39 games.

That's an average of 3. 1 per game. The nation's eighth-ranked team isn't quite on that same pace this year, but it has 53 home runs through the first 22 games for an average of 2.
