Vanderbilt baseball pitcher Austin Nye out for season with injury
Vanderbilt baseball will be without Austin Nye, one of its top starters for the rest of the season, coach Tim Corbin confirmed.
Vanderbilt baseball pitcher Austin Nye is out for the season with an injury, coach Tim Corbin said after the Commodores ' 15-5 win over Tennessee Tech on March 24. Nye hadn't pitched in nearly a month for Vanderbilt (14-12) but appeared close to returning, being listed as questionable on the most recent SEC injury reports. Instead, he'll miss the rest of the season.
Corbin didn't have any specifics on Nye's exact injury. He had previously said Nye was dealing with a biceps issue. "I'll let a a doctor talk to you about that," Corbin said.
"We'll get him back at some point, but not this year. " Nye began this season as the Commodores' Saturday starter and went 1-0 with an 0. 00 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 10 innings across three starts.
In his third start, against Arizona on Feb. 28, he left the game after an inning in which his fastball velocity was down significantly. Nye is considered a potential first-round pick in the 2027 MLB Draft.
