After an impressive six-year run that included a pair of state Final Four appearances, Frank Williams has stepped down as the Benedictine basketball coach.

Benedictine's Frank Williams has stepped down from his role as the Cadets head basketball coach after an impressive six-year run leading the program, he confirmed on Tuesday, March 24. The veteran coach posted a record of 84-58 over the six seasons, leading the Cadets to three region titles and to the Class 4A State Final Four in 2023 and 2024. The Cadets went 18-6 in the 2022-23 season and reached the state semifinals for the first time since 1959.

Caleb Jones, a two-time Savannah Morning News Player of the Year, led the way on those playoff runs before graduating in 2025. The standout guard played a season at Moravian Prep in North Carolina and recently announced his commitment to play at Queens University of Charlotte. BC went 20-6 in Jones' senior year and lost in the first round of the playoffs.

This season the Cadets struggled ― finishing with a 6-20 record, but still reached the state playoffs. Williams, 67, is well known in the Savannah basketball community. He is a graduate of Johnson High, who went on to earn a bachelor's degree at Savannah State, before attending Bowling Green to obtain his master's and then earning a doctorate degree in English at the University of Florida.

He started his coaching career as an assistant under the legendary Tim Jordan at Savannah High and helped lead the Blue Jackets to a state crown in 1998, to a state runner-up finish in 2001 and a Final Four appearance in 2003. Williams then took over as the head coach at Beach and led the Bulldogs to the state semis in 2004 and to the state final in 2006. If there is a big game in town and Williams isn't coaching that night, odds are he will be in the stands taking in the action as a mainstay in a basketball crazed town.
