Mike Tomlin’s new career path is obvious — and it appears he won’t be going back to the NFL sidelines for now. MORE: NFL, CBS closing in on new mega broadcasting deal The longtime Pittsburgh Steelers head coach, who stepped down in January , is angling for a sports media job as evidenced by the news Front Office Sports broke March 24. According to Ryan Glasspiegel and Mike McCarthy, Tomlin has signed with sports media agents Sandy Montag and Alex Flanagan.
It’s the most major hint yet that Tomlin’s next job will find him on camera as an analyst with one of the NFL’s big broadcast partners. “Look for a bidding war for Mike Tomlin between legacy NFL TV partners and streamers,” McCarthy wrote. Tomlin, 54, could enjoy his choice of roles if Fox, NBC, CBS, ESPN — or a streamer like Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, or YouTube — is able to carve out a role for him that meets his schedule and asking price.
If so, Tomlin could once again follow in the footsteps of Bill Cowher. Cowher, who coached the Steelers from 1992-2006, stepped off the sideline and into a studio analyst role with CBS in 2007 — a job he still holds to this day . Tomlin led the Steelers to a victory in the Super in 2009, and an AFC championship two years later.
He retired with a career regular season record of 193-114-2 in 19 years on the sidelines. — Enjoy free coverage of the top news & trending stories on The Big Lead — MARCH MADNESS: 2026 Sweet 16 TV schedule, game times & dates for NCAA Tournament NFL: Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Seahawks make NFL history with blockbuster deal NBA: Warriors’ Moses Moody suffers serious knee injury on dunk attempt SPORTS MEDIA: Select CBS, TNT Sports record highest-rated opening day in NCAA Tournament history ENTERTAINMENT: WWE’s Liv Morgan chugs beer to fire up Boston crowd ahead of ‘Monday Night RAW’ VIRAL: Aryna Sabalenka devours $100 Miami Open ‘Golden Glizzy’ after QF berth
