Penn State QB Rocco Becht is 'ahead of schedule' in his recovery from shoulder injuries, coach Matt Campbell says.

Ahead of Penn State football's spring practices, the media was wondering about a potential update on new Penn State quarterback Rocco Becht . After signing in the transfer portal after Matt Campbell's hiring, Becht had to answer several questions about whether or not he would be back to full health by the time spring practice rolled around. Becht tore a labrum in his non-throwing shoulder, as well as having an AC joint sprain in his throwing shoulder, which ended his 2025 season.

However, according to coach Campbell, the quarterback is quickly looking to get back on track ahead of spring practices. โ€œI think Rocco is a little bit ahead of schedule, in terms of physically. He was able to get out and do some drill work,โ€ Campbell said, according to the Daily Collegian .

โ€œI think the biggest thing for him is he won't get live reps. But I think things like 7-on-7, three over two routes on air. " This is highly important news for the experienced QB as he tries to become the leader of a new look team.

While Becht will have several of his former teammates along for the ride, he will be operating in a completely different environment. In Happy Valley, anything short of a playoff appearance is considered a failure. For college football's winningest quarterback, getting off to a good start despite his injury status is paramount.
