Detroit Shipping Company will hold a JV lookalike contest as part of their festivities for the Tigers' home opener.

If you look like Justin Verlander, you could be a winner. The Detroit Shipping Company is holding a Justin Verlander lookalike contest on April 3, prior to the Tigers' home opener at Comerica Park, with the winner poised to walk away with two tickets to a future Tigers game. The contest celebrates Verlander's return to the Tigers after nine seasons away.

"I've seen a lot a lot of lookalike contests recently, and he's back, so I figured why not, right? " says Julie Sailus, who is in charge of arts and culture programming for the Detroit Shipping Company. Celebrity lookalike contests have enjoyed a cultural resurgence since a Timothรฉe Chalamet resemblance challenge took New York by storm in 2024.

Since, a slew of similar dupe competitions have made their way across the land, bringing out those who look like Paul Mescal, or "The Bear's" Jeremy Allen White, or accused CEO killer Luigi Mangione. Locally, Detroit's Old Miami bar has hosted theme nights encouraging bargoers to dress up like area billboard queen and personal injury lawyer Joumana Kayrouz. Prospective JV lookalikes needn't be 6-foot-5 and have beard stubble on their face, but it probably wouldn't hurt.

Same goes for sweetening the pot by dressing in a Tigers or even a Verlander jersey. The contest kicks off at noon on April 3; the Shipping Company opens that day at 10 a. m.
